AI & Model Disclosure

The short version

The Neural Network produces two different kinds of automated content, and we label them differently on purpose:

• Model — for MLB, NBA, and NFL, our own statistical models do the picking. They project player performance in code and select the plays.
• AI — the written reasoning that accompanies those picks is generated by an AI language model. And for every other sport (World Cup soccer, golf, and anything outside MLB/NBA/NFL), the picks themselves are AI-generated rather than model-selected.

When you see a Model tag, a statistical model chose that pick. When you see AI, a language model produced the text — or, for non-core sports, the pick.

How MLB, NBA & NFL picks are made

For these three leagues, the selection is driven by our statistical models, not by AI. Before any AI is involved, the system projects every eligible player's stat line in code — blending recent form, season baselines, opponent matchup, pace and usage, and advanced metrics — prices those projections against real sportsbook lines, and surfaces the strongest plays for the day.

A separate AI language model then writes the plain-English reasoning shown with each pick. The AI explains the pick; it does not choose it. Any written explanation, matchup writeup, or "reasoning" text can contain mistakes even when the underlying model selection is sound.

Other sports are AI-generated

For sports outside MLB, NBA, and NFL — including World Cup soccer and golf — picks are generated with the help of third-party AI language models rather than our statistical projection models. These do not carry the same model-driven projection and line-pricing pipeline described above, and are labeled AI.

AI-written explanations and analysis

Several features across the site generate text with AI language models — for example, the written reasoning on featured picks, the Matchups "AI Analyze" feature, and key-player writeups. AI-generated text can be incomplete, out of date, or simply wrong (a "hallucination").

Always confirm anything important — names, injuries, lines, and prices — against a primary source before acting on it.

Every pick, projection, suggested over/under, and piece of analysis on The Neural Network is provided for informational and entertainment purposes only. We are not a sportsbook, we do not accept wagers or hold funds, and nothing here is a guarantee or a recommendation to place any bet. If you choose to gamble, do so responsibly and only where legal; you must be of legal age in your jurisdiction.

Accuracy & transparency

We log and grade our picks against real results and publish the record on the Model Accuracy page — including the misses. Past accuracy does not guarantee future results, and lines move, so always verify the current price before acting.

Third-party AI providers

Our AI-written content and AI-generated picks use third-party language-model providers (such as OpenAI). These providers receive sports data — player names, stats, recent game logs, and matchup context — needed to generate output.
